Whether or not you’ve considered going green, pregnancy may be the perfect time to start. Now that you’ve got a baby on the way, taking care of your body and environment has much more importance. You would be surprised at the amount of toxins and contaminates you are exposed to everyday and they have a much larger effect on your baby. Going all the way green is most likely not an option right now but follow these three tips to to get started.

Eat Organic (whenever possible)
You’ve probably heard about all of the nasty pesticides our food is grown in but perhaps never paid much attention to it. These chemicals are harmful to everyone but especially dangerous for unborn babies. You don’t have to go completely organic (unless you want to) but doing so whenever possible will protect both you and your baby.

Use A Water Filter
Amongst other things, drugs, both prescription and illegal, get into tap water. Opting for bottled water isn’t the solution you may think it is either. A lot of times, it’s also tap water. The best way to avoid the grossness that gets into tap water, as well as save money and landfills, get a water filter.

Use Green Cleaning Products
Another big source of toxic chemicals is household cleaners. Check the bottle of any of the cleaners you have in your home and you’ll find things like ammonia and Phthalates, which may cause birth defects. Thankfully, as our society becomes more conscious of harmful chemicals, an increasing number of “green cleaning” products have become available. Take advantage of this.

These three, simple changes can do wonders for your home, body, and baby. There are, of course, lots of extra steps you can take to live the green lifestyle and lots of information about it can be found online. How green you go is really up to you.
