We know you love your baby from their head to their toes. And that includes their little baby bottom!

A lot of times, baby’s develop diaper rash which is both uncomfortable and painful for your little one.  Here are a few tips to prevent and treat diaper rash.

  • Change your baby’s diaper often! Since disposable diapers tend to trap odors and wetness changing often keeps your baby feeling comfy & dry.
  • Don’t put your baby’s diaper on too tight! You want their diaper snug to prevent leaks but not too tight so that it rubs up against their skin or irritates.
  • Pat instead of wipe your baby dry after their bath, and pay extra attention to their back-side.  If their bottom is clammy or moist, it may cause a rash when you put on their diaper. Blowing on their bum or fanning it dry also works.
  • When changing your little one, give their bottom plenty of airtime—legs up, giggling, and enjoying their time being diaper free!
  • Stay away from scented wipes or diapers that have perfume.  They may smell good, but the chemicals could irritate your baby’s sensitive skin.   You can try using unscented wipes & diapers made for sensitive skin.  You can even dab your baby’s bum clean with warm water, soft washcloths, etc.
  • If you see redness on your baby’s tushie, try over the counter ointment for their diaper rash. Check our this online list of affordable creams and ointments: http://www.healthline.com/health/childrens-health/best-diaper-rash-creams or ask your pediatrician for suggestions.

If your baby’s rash worsens however, and you start notice blisters, a fever, or other worrisome symptoms, call your pediatrician right away.  We know your baby’s health is of the utmost importance, so take extra care and follow these steps when diapering to prevent and treat diaper rash.
